Your Authentic Expression is an Act of Radical Rebellion

Accessing your creative power and transforming your reality from within

Consider yourself an empath or sensitive? Someone who feels the weight of the world on their shoulders. Find it hard to say no out of fear disappointing those around you? What if I told you that this exact lack of self-preservation is the reason you find it so challenging to execute your goals, tap into your authentic creative power and recognise that your expression is an act of rebellion.

You see, constantly trying to accommodate or change your reality and avoid your true inner calling is a symptom, not of being an empathetic saviour but rather a symptom of low self-esteem. This is costing you your ability to create and transform because your energy is leaking, which can show up as a people pleasing and overextending.

This is going to trigger some of you, and it did me too but sometimes we need that lightning bolt to awaken a deeper part of us that knows the truth. You see, shining a light on this pattern in my life, forced me to take radical self-responsibility and realise that where I thought I was being a good girl, was a manipulative mask. Deep down, I was (sub)consciously seeking external validation, approval and appreciation. This insatiable hungry ego monster left me feeling empty, resentful and full of blame of those around me for satisfying this beast within.

“I was always ashamed to take. So I gave. It was not a virtue. It was a disguise.”

~  Anaïs Nin

Blame is an interesting game, and one that keeps us unforgivingly trapped in a perpetual cycle of victimhood which inevitably robs us of our life force and vitality as allow the external to dictate our internal. Being in this victim state, sends that signal to the universe that you simply aren’t enough, you don’t have enough, that your desires are not a priority, and you will soon find yourself in a feedback loop where this will start to play out in your life.

This feeling of scarcity spreads like wildfire within the mind, soul and heart and before you know it, all you can see are obstacles and reasons to not even try to take a step towards your goal. Ultimately you tell life, I am not enough as I am and those dreams you planted within my heart are not for this lifetime and I am here to tell you that it is simply not true, and it can start with a shift of mindset.

“Self-love is a decision you make when you come to realise that everything is a reflection of the relationship you have with yourself.” ~ April Green

Something miraculous happens when you begin to shift your perspective, when you stop waiting for the stars to align and act. Imperfect action doesn’t wait for all the blessings to be here, it takes the first step. Although it would be ideal if real and tangible resources appeared to prove that it was time, but life does not work that way, we only ever truly have the first step. Speak your desires aloud, journal them down, write contingent plans and yes you may say – “But how will it work out?”

Faith. Trust. Patience.

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new”
~ Socrates.

Once you believe in yourself, in your vision and dream you will begin to act accordingly. You will begin to value your time, your energy and be far more mindful about what and who you consume and most of all, you will begin develop accountability which will generate more trust and self-appreciation.

You will start to recognise these gifts and abilities not as your own but an extension of your unique divine essence. It becomes less about the I and more about the We and community, as embodying your authentic expression is a stand against all you have been conditioned with. It is a radical act of rebellion as unleashing this true expression is beneficial for humanity, not just for your ego. It is an opportunity to break generational patterns, learned behaviour and see the ego for what it is, a safety mechanism that is trying to protect you.

The ego will trap us in an unforgiving state fear, for stepping out of line or allow you to shift when the conditions are all “perfect”. The only when I have ____ then I will experience _____. Which of course is an endless cycle of chasing fulfilment in all the wrong places and making our worth dependent on circumstances outside our control. It diminishes our unique expression because it demands we stay small, in a box of predictability and easy to identify.

When we begin to acknowledge (even for a moment) that we are creative beings, that we have already everything we need, we are in fact enough and we do have all the tools within to start creating our most fulfilling life our life, we suddenly find inspiration and wonder again. By letting go of the outcome, we can experience an authentic feeling of playful fullness and allow whatever we create from there be an extension of our whole, complete hearts.

Knowing deep down, our expression is not just for us but for all that came before us and will come after us. Each step we take toward authentic expression is a radical act of rebellion as we break down barriers built on limiting beliefs, judgements and separation. Each step we take is a step forward into courageous authentic expression brings waves of inner union, harmony and closer to experiencing this in our outer world too.

It must start from within.

There are infinite rivers all leading to the same place but for my journey, I was led to somatic sensing, meditation, dance and energy work to help me get out of my worrying fearful mind and into trusting the signals from my creative wise soma body. For me, these modalities are the most potent tools for exploring the depths of my subconscious mind, accessed through the body, where I could allow these old samskara’s (Sanskrit word for wounds) to arise, in the light of awareness. Learning to observe these wounds compassionately and objectively is something we are all capable of and gives way for making space for something new to arise internally and externally. This is the wisdom of the body and the empowering force of love.
